Calcined Needle Coke Used in Steelmaking of High Power and Ultra High Power Graphite Electrode CNC
Calcined needle coke is significantly different from sponge coke in property, with high density, high purity, high strength, low sulfur content, low ablative capacity, low thermal expansion coefficient and good thermal shock resistance. There are obvious anisotropy in heat conduction, electricity conduction, magnetic permeability and optics. The hole is large but less, slightly elliptical, the fracture surface has a clear texture structure, and the touch has a sense of lubrication. Calcined needle coke is mainly prepared from residue with high aromatics content and low non-hydrocarbon impurity content. 1. Graphitization of petroleum coke is to put petroleum coke in a graphitization furnace, after about 3000 degrees of high temperature to make the amorphous chaotic structure of petroleum coke carbon crystals into hexagonal lamellar structure of crystalline carbon, that is, petroleum coke into graphite. This process is called graphitisation and the petroleum coke treated by the graphitisation process is called graphitised petroleum coke, commonly known as "graphitised coke".
2. Graphite petroleum coke is widely used as a carbon enhancer in the steel making and precision casting industries, as a breeder in the foundry industry, as a reducing agent in the metallurgical industry and as a refractory material. Graphite petroleum coke can promote the nucleation of graphite in the iron solution, increase the amount of ductile iron and improve the organisation and grade of grey cast iron. Through micro structure observation, graphite petroleum coke has the following characteristics: First, the ferrite content of ductile iron can be greatly increased without the use of pearlite stabilizers; Second, the proportion of V-shaped and VI-shaped graphite can be increased during use; Third, compared with improving the shape of the nodular ink, a substantial increase in the amount of nodular ink can reduce the use of expensive nucleating agents in later fine-tuning, resulting in significant cost savings.

Recarburizer: CPC Calcined Petroleum Coke for Cast Iron
Calcined Petroleum Coke is a critical ingredient in the production of aluminum. It is created by placing high quality raw "green" petroleum coke into rotary kilns, where it is heated to temperatures between 1200 to 1350 degrees C (2192 to 2460 F). The high temperatures remove excess moisture, extract all remaining hydrocarbons and modify the crystalline structure of the coke, resulting in a denser more electrically conductive product. In a matter of hours, calcined petroleum coke is cooled from 1350 degrees C to less than 200 degrees C, when it can be safely handled and transported to storage silos or placed directly into shipping containers, trucks, railcars, barges or vessels.
Calcined petroleum coke has a sponge-like structure which plays an important role in the making of anodes. The pores allow binding material to penetrate through the coke particles and form a solid carbon block, through which aluminum smelters conduct electricity into their smelting pots. Over time, the anodes are consumed, roughly at the rate of 40 tons of calcined petroleum coke for each 100 tons of aluminum produced. Currently, there is no known commercially viable substitute for calcined petroleum coke in the fabrication and utilization of aluminum smelter anodes.

UHP GRAPHITE ELECTRODE – LOW ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE, HIGH DENSITY
UHP graphite electrode is used for the recycling of steel in the electric arc furnace industry. Its main ingredient is high-value needle coke which is made from either petroleum or coal tar. Graphite electrodes are finished with a cylinder shape and machined with threaded areas at each end. In this way, the graphite electrodes can be assembled into an electrode column using electrode nipple.
In order to meet the requirement of higher work efficiency and lower total cost, large capacity ultra-high power arc furnaces are becoming more and more popular. Because of this, UHP graphite electrodes with diameters of over 500 mm will dominate market.
