The total import volume of petroleum coke in the first half of 2021 was 6,553,800 tons, an increase of 1,526,800 tons or 30.37% over the same period last year. Total petroleum coke exports in the first half of 2021 were 181,800 tons, down 109,600 tons or 37.61% from the same period last year.
The total import volume of petroleum coke in the first half of 2021 was 6,553,800 tons, an increase of 1,526,800 tons or 30.37% over the same period last year. The import trend of petroleum coke in the first half of 2021 is basically the same as that in the first half of 2020, but the overall import volume has increased, mainly because of the poor performance of refined oil demand in 2021 and the low overall start-up load of refineries, resulting in the domestic petroleum coke supply has been in a tight state.
In the first half of 2020, the main importers of petroleum coke were the United States, Saudi Arabia, The Russian Federation, Canada and Colombia, among which the United States accounted for 30.59%, Saudi Arabia for 16.28%, the Russian Federation for 11.90%, Canada for 9.82%, and Colombia for 8.52%.
In the first half of 2021, petroleum coke imports mainly come from the United States, Canada, Saudi Arabia, the Russian Federation, Colombia and other places, among which the United States accounted for 51.29%, Canada and Saudi Arabia accounted for 9.82%, the Russian Federation accounted for 8.16%, Colombia accounted for 4.65%. By comparing the petroleum coke import places in 2020 and the first half of 2021, we find that the main import places are basically the same, but the volume is different, among which the largest import place is still the United States.
From the perspective of downstream demand for imported petroleum coke, the “digestion” area of imported petroleum coke is mainly concentrated in east China and South China, the top three provinces and cities are Shandong, Guangdong and Shanghai respectively, of which Shandong province accounts for 25.59%. And the northwest and the region along the river digestion is relatively small.
Total petroleum coke exports in the first half of 2021 were 181,800 tons, down 109,600 tons or 37.61% from the same period last year. The trend of petroleum coke exports in the first half of 2021 is different from that in 2020. In the first half of 2020, the overall trend of petroleum coke exports in the first half of 2020 shows a decline, while in 2021, the exports increase first and then decrease, mainly due to the overall low starting load of domestic refineries, the tight supply of petroleum coke and the impact of foreign public health events.
Petroleum coke exports mainly to Japan, India, South Korea, Bahrain, the Philippines and other places, of which Japan accounted for 34.34%, India 24.56%, South Korea 19.87%, Bahrain 11.39%, the Philippines 8.48%.
In 2021, petroleum coke exports are mainly to India, Japan, Bahrain, South Korea and the Philippines, among which India accounts for 33.61%, Japan 31.64%, Bahrain 14.70%, South Korea 9.98%, and the Philippines 4.26%. By comparison, it can be found that the export places of petroleum coke in 2020 and the first half of 2021 are basically the same, and the export volume accounts for different proportions.
